About the Host
Renée Aikens is an avowed foodie and healthy food advocate. Though not a professionally trained chef, like our viewers, she is the one who cooks in her residence. Renée firmly believes food is medicine. After years of debilitating pain in her joints and being diagnosed with a chronic inflammatory condition she took health matters into her own hands.
“My condition crept up on me gradually. It started with occasional inflammation in my hips caused by weather patterns. But then it was no longer just weather related. The inflammation spread to other joints in my body, the cartilage in my chest and, eventually, my muscles. Then my blood pressure started to soar and I was officially diagnosed with an inflammatory condition.
When the doctors told her she would be on medication the rest of her life, Renée soundly rejected the prognosis and took health matters into her own hands. She took an anti-inflammatory diet class and learned what causes inflammation in the body. She also learned inflammation is a huge factor in many health issues faced by Americans, including diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, obesity and other health conditions. Armed with an arsenal of healthy food education she then radically change her life. Renée started eating a largely organic, raw food diet; cut out refined sugars; introduced fresh herbs and spices into her diet; and made regular exercise a priority.
“I refused to be on medication for the rest of my life when I knew what I needed could be found in nature.”
Already an accomplished cook, Renée modified old recipes and started developing new ones to improve her condition. As a result, she lost 75 lbs in 2015, stabilized her blood pressure, and is successfully controlling her condition. Because she wanted to share with others what she learned about the benefits of healthy eating as a lifestyle choice, the Eating in the Real with Renée™ Show was born.
